Francesco began his role as a Veterinary Clinical Pathologist and later became Head of the Veterinary Clinical Pathology service at the Animal Health Trust (AHT) (UK) in late 2013. In September 2015, he moved to BattLab (LABOKLIN) (UK), where he currently works as a Senior Veterinary Clinical Pathologist. He also works as a freelancer for digital cytology laboratories and as an educator for ESAVS and other educational providers. In 2024, he was honoured with a Fellowship from the RCVS in recognition of his contributions to clinical practice.
Georg graduated from the Veterinary University of Vienna in 2006, where he also completed a rotating small animal internship and a three-year ECVS approved residency program in small animal surgery. 2015 Georg moved to UK and worked as a specialist small animal surgeon in international renowned referral centers (Animal Health Trust, Dick White Referrals). In 2018 Georg returned back to Austria where he is CEO and head surgeon of a busy referral centre. Beside his clinical work, Georg has published articles in peer reviewed journals and has lectured and been invited as a speaker at numerous conferences and CPD courses at national and international level.Teaching Experience
Francesco Cian is actively involved in education as a regular speaker and course organizer for ESAVS and other education providers in Europe and Asia. He also contributes to the professional development of veterinarians through social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram, and maintains a specialized website dedicated to veterinary cytology.
Research
Francesco Cian’s work includes several peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on cytology, including its latest digital developments, as well as lymphoproliferative disorders in dogs and cats. He has edited three cytology books published by CRC Press and CABI and co-authored the cytology chapter in the BSAVA Manual of Veterinary Clinical Pathology.
